DS; Disappointment on Saturday

Normally I love the DSmagazine that comes with De Standaard Newspaper on Saturday. It's all about food, fashion and lifestyle; To be honest, main reason I took this newspaper is because they are good at fashion. Or at least, the women's side of fashion.

Today's DSmagazine was a men's fashion special. So I got up, made me some coffee and started.

First there was an article about beards and 'real men' which was good, I admit. But then trouble kicked in. In a trend report, a 'stylist' styled each time five men following one trend. Ladies (and men), tell me; Would you honestly let your man wear this?

It baffles me! It IS possible to be fashionable as a man, and not look like a clown.

Then there was an editorial. Again, What happened here?

And the last piece; A column on the manbag. The writer got a free python manbag. Throuhgout the entire article, he keeps on highlighting the most stupid disadvantages of it. Sweetie, let me tell you something; When you get a free python manbag, you don't complain. You take it and you nodd.

Of course people will look at you when you enter a restaurant with a manbag. But should that be a reason to leave it at home? When the first man started wearing a messenger bag as an accessoiry, people looked at him. Now nobody cares. When I first went to school with a clutch, people looked at me. Now nobody cares.

At this point, my eyes were almost bleeding. Ok maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but my point is; Belgium still has a long way to go when it comes to men's fashion. We do have some great talented people but we will have to change our fashion climate if we don't want them all to flee to Paris, London or New York..

Mugler

Normally I'm not a big fan of doing posts on one particular fashion show. But when something extraordinairy like this Mugler show comes around, the only thing I want to do is share it with all of you!

The show started with 4 or 5 models wearing (almost) the same white outfit.
This duo/triple/quatro model thing is really becoming a trend this season!

And then groups of models strutted the runway, in an unclear confusing choreography. But what else can you expect from Mugler? All pieces where black and white, except for an orange and a red dress. Omnipresent were the usual Mugler-assymetricality and edginess. Models wore Louboutins.
It was everything you could expect from Mugler, and so much more.

I must admit, this collection is one of the best I've seen this season. I feel like this IS fashion like it is meant to be. Pure aesthetical perfection. Wow.

Winter Picknick

Winter is almost leaving, Spring is coming. So is there any better way to spend your Friday afternoon than by catching the first warmth of the sun, laying in the fields on the most camp blanket you can find?

Winter picknicks don't differ much from regular summer picknicks. Except maybe from the fact that you might want to bring hot Jasmin tea instead of champagne, and an extra blanket to keep you warm. But don't let that withold you from trying it! I personally like to read a book and listen to Bon Iver and Zaz. But I imagine your boyfriend or children would be good company too.

New Toy

Yesterday my parents surprised me with a little present for my 18th birthday ;-)

They got me a Canon 600D. No need to say I freaked out. I've wanted a reflex camera for so long and now I finally have one! Done with the crappy pictures, only professional photo's now! Can't wait to start annoying my friends like a real papparazzi. ClickClikClick. ;-)

Show me your teeth

My bag is packed, I went to the hairdresser, bought a stack of fashion magazines, made a 'teeth-themed' playlist.. I think I'm ready.

Tomorrow, my wisdom teeh will be removed.

In an effort to pull myself together and find some courage, I made a list of pros and cons

Yay
-Now I actually have a reason to make drama
-I will be drugged by a professional
-I won't be able to eat, so I'll lose weight
-I get to wear huge dramatic scarfs and fur snoods
-People will come visit and bring gifts
-I get to eat as much icecream as I want
-The doctor is quite hot.

Nay
-My face will be swollen and ugly for at least a week
-It will hurt :-(

As you see, the yay list is much longer than the nay list. I hope it will turn out not that bad. Did you have your wisdom teeth pulled? Tell me about it!

Certainly not when they concern special people like Zelda Kaplan.

Miss Kaplan was just about to watch the Joanna Mastroianni show in the Lincoln Center, NYC, when she collapsed on her front row seat. The 95-year-old was still a regular at NY's hottest clubs, events and fashion shows. It seems like the term socialite was invented just for her.

Zelda was known for her unique style (long robes made of imported African fabrics), her charity work, her battle for feminism and the energy she still possesed at her age.

Zelda, you will be missed.

Diva Farewell

This morning, just 10minutes ago, I woke up from a friend's text, telling me Whitney Houston died.

I will always remember her as the ultimate diva. She became successfull at a young age, had to cope with drugs and bad boyfriends, fell a long way down but tried to stand straight up again. And now, she died way too young. It's the same story, happening over and over.

Two years ago, on this day, another legend died. Yes, it has already been two years since we received the news about Alexander Mcqueen.

Let's spend some thoughts in the remembrance of two beautiful people today.

Not 'En Vogue'

Remember this post 'The Downfall of Vogue' I did last October? Well, it was about the outrageous amount of publicity and the lack of original content there was to be found in their September Issue. That was almost four months ago. During that time I went on a quest for interesting and independent magazines. The magazines portrayed below managed to catch my eye and prove to be read-worthy.

WAD

WAD or "We'ar Different"(no you grammar-nazi, that's no typo) I the least you could say about this magazine. Dedicated to urban fashion and culture, it is an international bible for fans of city-wear. WAD is not afraid to try out unconventional methods and put together the most crazy looks. The editorials in the magazine were the best.

Label Magazine

Label Magazine is a Belgian-based magazine that, in my opinion, gives a more 'professional' vision on the industry. If I'd be a store owner, this is what I would most definitely read.

Nice to know; Our very own Annebeth Bels from The Styling Dutchman is a writer at Label Magazine.

Fantastic Man

I discovered Fantastic Man after a tip from Mr Immi 'Style4Guys' Abrahams. FM is dedicated to men's fashion. It offers good interviews with (thank god) non-cliché questions. It's a bit sad most of the pictures are printed in black&white, but at least the content is from a respectable level.

CODE

This is the most 'alternative' one of these four magazines. And the most expensive one too ;-) Each issue of CODE contains only a few subjects, but the articles are very in-depth. After you've read one, you feel like you're a professional on the subject.

Mr Metro for a day

This morning I had to make a little detour on my way to school, to pick up today's 'Metro' at the station. As you might know, Karl Lagerfeld is crowned 'Mr Metro for a day' and given the chance to be editor-in-chief of the Metro newspaper today. He's following up Lady Gaga, who was guest-editor just last year.

Even though Gaga's paper was more interesting, Karl did a great job. There were articels on 'The Lagerfeld Touch', Karl's clothes in different cities, His homes and offices, Haider Ackerman, Karl's Diet,.. And of course an interview.

He confesses strange things like 'I'm not interested in sex'.(So what's the Giabiconi boy for then?) and 'I don't have a kitchen, only a place to heat food, I don't want my house to smell'.

There was some fashion stuff too, but nothing really new or surprising, so the gossip was more interesting. Did you have a chance to grab the paper and read it? What did you think?

I look like a woman, but I think like a man

As a way to entertain women across America last night, when their respective husbands were barbarricaly screaming and shouting (aka 'The Superbowl'), CBS broadcasted a special episode of '60 minutes' by Morley Safer. The episode was dedicated to strong women and featured Dolly Parton, Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep and portrayed in-depth profiles.

You might not be a fan of these women, but you can't deny their talents. Each is an authority in their field.

Main reason I watched this was of course the part about Anna Wintour. Even though I'm not a big Vogue-adept, it's interesting to observe this fashion myth.

When asked ''A magazine isn't a democracy, it's a dictatorship and you're the dictator, no?'' she answers; ''It’s a group of people coming together presenting ideas from which I pick what I think is the best mix for every issue, but in the end, the decision has to be mine.'' Instead of just saying yes. And that's one of the reasons I respect her.

The thing I want to talk to you about today, is the presentation of the new clothing brand JuliaJune, to which I was invited some time ago.

Those of you who are lucky enough to have visited the headquarters of a fashion company will understand what I mean when I say; I was impressed. I always thought movies like 'The Devil Wears Prada' exaggerated these kind of places, but no such thing.

But first, let me tell you something about the brand. JuliaJune is a private owned company. Guy, the founder, started off in the fashion world as a fabric salesman. This results in an eye for detail when it comes to choice of fabric. But that's only one of the many strengths of this label. JuliaJune offers a clothing line for the younger desmoiselles, in which quality and originality are the two key words.Clothes are available at selected boutiques.

When you stroll through the magnificent offices, and talk to the people there, you feel they're all driven by the same thing; An engagement to make high-quality fashion.

JuliaJune's first collection features an explosion of colors and paterns that are spot-on-trend. For this summer, this translates into color-blocking and florals.

I had a lovely evening filled with fashion, chitchat and champagne.

One of the employees was so kind to model for some pics, in pieces of the JuliaJune collection.

I'd like to thank the people at JuliaJune, for offering me this chance. I had the opportunity to chat with inspiring people and take my first steps in this business.

Dreaming The World Awake

Last Friday I was in Antwerp again and I decided to finally visit the Walter Van Beirendonck expo at the MoMu.

You should know I'm not a big WVB fan, so that might have influenced the experience, because I wasn't very impressed. I can imagine that for people who have been following his work, the expo might be quite exciting, but it didn't really appeal to me.

If I wouldn't know he's a real designer, I'd think he'd gone to his attic and thought; 'What can I do with this junk? Oh let's make some clothes'. But after all, the man is head of the Fashion Department of the Antwerp Academy of Arts, so it's probably just me.

PS; After my visit I had lunch at the legendary restaurant Lombardia and really enjoyed my meal. [even more than the expo ;-)] So if you're into vegan food and indie surroundings, be sure to check it out!

La Street c'est Chic

Yeah, that's what I've learnt the past few days.

You may have other opinions, but to me London is the capital of street style, with the sidewalk before the Topman store as the epitome. I'm serious, there's no other place on earth with such a high rate of beautiful, original and stylish people.

Everytime I'm in London there are some places I like to visit. Of course Oxford Street, with Selfridges where I found the clutch I've been looking for quite some time, and TopMan. There's Nothing Hill, known for it's amazing Vintage Stores. Camden Town, also for vintage and for clothes you won't find anywhere else. And Westfield, a shopping center so big I managed to get lost. Twice.

High Street vs. Bond Street

On the left, you have this beautiful sweater. When you touch the fabric, you can feel its quality. The print is following the latest trends, but it's still original, there's something special to it. The sweater is quite expensive.

And then on the right there is another sweater. It's a nice one, but you've seen that print in many stores before. You know that after a few washing rounds it will have lost its shape. But it costs a lot less than the first sweater.

Which one would you choose?

McQ Alexander McQueen H&M

Yesterday I spent the day shopping in Antwerp. I was expecting a lot, but many stores managed to disappoint me. Maybe it's the economical crisis that scares the brands, so that they don't dare do take risks, or maybe it's just me getting more critical about it. But everything just looked the same. Variations on the same theme. And yes I know that's fashions baseline. But is some originality really too much to ask for?

My first good intention for 2012; I won't let the lower prices of High Street megabrands convince me to buy low quality and unoriginal pieces. Probably I'll end up with a lot less clothes by the end of the year. But so be it.

Marry The Night Video

Lady Gaga's video for Marry The Night has been released. It's her first real short film.

I think it's good. It reminds me of Edie Sedgewick (Warholls muse) with the signature earrings, eyeliner, hair-do.. The video tells the old story of the iconic fallen diva, drug- and alcohol addict, who manages to rise her star again by working hard.

Marni ft. H&M

This morning I received an e-mail from the H&M PR department titled 'MARNI TO DESIGN A SPRING COLLECTION FULL OF SIGNATURE PRINT AND PATTERN FOR H&M'

I thought it was a joke at first, with Versace just being in the stores etc.

But turns out it is true.

Just as with Versace, the collection will contain iconic Marni pieces for both men and women. It will be available in 260 stores worldwide and on the internet, starting from
March 8, 2012.

Does size matter? - The Future of Print

Let's start with a video

As you might have noticed in the video, Visionaire's latest issue, nr 61, is big. Not to say huge. But that's not the only strange thing about this issue. It also contains scent strips, and the price (I'm not kidding) is $1500.

For those of you who don't know the concept; Visionaire is a magazine that tries to be a forum for artists who feel left out because their work isn't suiting for mainstream media. As is to expect from independant artists, the magazine hardly ever is 'normal'. Reason for their latest escapade: "The challenge for a magazine is to create real physical experience for their audience. Visionaire makes more sense now than it did before.”

But now we might ask ourselves, is this 'going-big-thing' really the solution for magazines who are trying to survive internet media domination? I often hear people say 'Print is dead'. Well I think that's not true. But the industry has to evolve. There are three major goals.

The first one, and I share my point of view on this with Visionaire, is that magazines will need to create physical, more special experiences in ways the internet has no access to. The entrance of scent is just a beginning. The idea should also be expanded in the directions of taste and touch. Imagine reading about the navy blue 3.1 Philip Lim clutch shown in his latest runway show, and being able to feel and smell the leather as if you were holding the bag itself.

Secondly, magazines also need to change the way they see theirselves as a medium. They are no longer relevant as a source of gossip and news, because the internet has taken over that task. Now they should focus on being a clear voice in this busy industry that offers an other, more profound point of view. They should put the clothes or whatever they're working with in a refreshing context in order to inspire their readers.

And the third; Magazines should not try to overthrow the internet, but to use it in their advance. Lots of magazines have already taken this step, with sites that bring the up-to-date news and blogs from the editors etc. This can be a way to bound with your readers, and also to reach out to a new audience, a new demographic.

As a conclusion we can say; No, print is not dead. But is has to evolve to the next stage. If the industry is willing to give up the old rules and explore the amazing new possibilities, the future looks bright.

Men's Clutch

First there were the messenger bags. Then came canvas bags. Last season there were vintage and denim rucksacks. And now, there's The Men's clutch.

They appeared on Gucci's runway (they call it a wristlet) and on London Fashion Week Menswear day(Topman, Shaun Samson,..) During last fashion week, trendsetting men in each of the fashion capitals were sporting men clutches and now they're popping up on the streetstyle blogs. Especially Lee Oliveira seems to be in love with the concept. And so am I. I'm loving the idea of a small-size purse just big enough to fit the essential Iphone and/or BlackBerry, agenda, cigs, perfume and whatever else you may need.

I predict this trend is going to be huge.

Ray-Ban ft. Johnny Marr

I was thrilled when I read that Tom Vek, contemporary artist and creater of my all-time favorite music video, is participating in a new project called Ray-Ban Raw Sounds.

Tom is one of the 5 contemporary artists which Ray-Ban is teaming up with ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr to make a new piece of music around a theme. Mr Marr also designed his own custom made glasses.

P.S. Have you already seen the other new special Ray-Ban collection? Every season, Ray-Ban teams up with an upcoming visual artist. This time, it's 'La Boca' who has gone creative with the brands signature glasses, the 'Wayfarer'. The glasses are available in four different colours, all in the same style.

Girl Panic! - Duran Duran

The much anticipated music video for Duran Duran's 'Girl Panic!' is out.

After being on Harper Bazaar UK's September cover, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova, and Yasmin Le Bon also star in this Jonas Akerlund production which is probably the most buzzed-about fashion vid of the season.

In the video, shot in The Savoy in London, each girls plays a band member.

Fashion credits include huge names like Dolce & Gabbana, Mugler, Louboutin, Ann Demeulemeester, Cavalli etc.

THE VERY BEST OF VERSACE for H&M

No, I won't do a post in which I describe every piece from the Versace for H&M collection. I just want to show you the promo vid which will be broadcasted on television.

In the clip Donatella is ruling her 'house' with an iron hand. Donatella shows once again she hasn't lost the tiniest bit of fierceness.

As many of you probably will have noticed, last night in New York there was a big launch party. Even our very own Tiana Kiriloff was attending, along other guests like Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Uma Thurman, Hilary Alexander, Bryanboy, Susie Bubble,.. There were performances by Prince and Nicki Minaj.

According to the huge amounts of tweets overflowing my timeline today, it looks like it was one of the best party's in ages.

But boys can't wear skirts. Madonna sang a song about it in 2001, but something that happened some time ago pointed out clearly that the song is still relevant ten years later.

This is the story; a friend of mine (for his privacy we'll call him Tom) got his ear pierced this summer. He now wears a little earring in his left ear. Yesterday at school, the superintendant came up to him and asked him to remove it because 'Boys don't wear earrings'. I leave the question whether or not earrings for boys are fashionable up to you because that's not the point. What really struck me is that, even in the 21st century and in a civilised country like ours, people can still say such stupid things.

(and for the record, I'm taking this to the school board)

Most of us are happily living our lifes pretending we live in a perfect society. Just last week I read an article in the newspaper about a prof, telling 'the equality between the two sexes has never been this big, people can now wear what they want'. Guess he never walked in the city wearing dark blue skinnys, a black T, orange-red blazer, gold chain watch necklace and a brown leather purse.

I wrote this post some time ago, but decidednot to post it yet. Yesterday made me realize that now is the right time.

Maybe now is the right time to break the news. I have a boyfriend. Yesterday we were walking in my hometown. Just two boys who love eachother walking hand in hand. You wouldn't believe the amount of dirty looks we received! By the time I got home I was depressed. For some moments, I saw no hope for the future.

Yesterday I went to Brussels with my parents for dinner. As you know, I'm not a rascist (at all). But when we walked by groups of immigrants I really was afraid. You could feel their hate.

But there's hope. ;) Awareness is rising. Many celebrities are using their influence. Such as Lady Gaga, dearest gay icon. She founded the 'Born This Way Foundation' which will be launching in 2012. Goal is to empower youth and to inspire bravery.

Finding the right products can be a real quest. The range is huge and you don't always know what to believe, and certainly not what to pick. From time to time, I get emails or tweets from people asking me my opinion on this or that brand, which products I personally use etc. So to make it a bit easier, I listed my favorite products in a shoot.

There are three brands I use the most; Kiehl's, Rituals and Mylène. I've tried many more than these, but I always come to the conclusion that these brands offer the best products at the best price-quality rate.

How many followers do you have?

Maybe it's due to the cold and rainy weather, but I feel like I'm in the mood for something heavier today. The thing I wanted to talk about this time, is the importance of social media as a marketing strategy.

I was inspired to write this post by two things. The first one is this vid I found on the Tumblr of DKNY PRGirl (which is defenitely a must-follow for anyone who's interested in the fashion scene). The video tells about the shift that companies need to make from traditional advertisment-based marketing to a marketing strategy in which social media have a key role.

The second one is a tweet I received from the Kiehls twitter account. This is the story; I got an email from Kiehls about the free-shipping action. So I looked at their online shop and found some products I wanted to buy, but then I found out they don't do shipping to Belgium. So I took to my twitter and uttered my complaints. Some moments later, I received a tweet back from the official Kiehls twitter account in which they said they were sorry and also that they would be happy to help me find a solution. It struck me how fast they came up with this, because I didn't even '@'-ed their twittername.

Kiehls and DKNY are two examples of companies that really know how to use social networks in their advance. Over the past few months they've really gained my respect.

It doesn't matter if you want to boost your career, blog, company or event, social media has to be your tool. Recent studies have shown that only 12% of people believe what adds say, while 90% admits to trust costumer reviews and comments.

Some tips:

Be omni-present

It's not enough to have only a twitter account or a facebook page. These two are the bare minimum. Also try to have a website and a blog and maybe even LinkdIn and Tumblr. But be aware, do not post the same things on every account. Try to differentiate the content on every channel.

Try to bond

Give the people an inside scoop in your life. Share photo's of your everyday activities, post links to websites and articles you like,.. It's important that people think they really know you so they can identificate with you. Use the social media as a way to show your audience who you truly are. Don't waste it by only posting business-kinda stuff.

ALWAYS answer, be accessible

This might be a hard one, but it's oh-so important! I hate it when people say in their bio ''Don't be afraid to tweet me'' or ''Email me if you have a question'' and they don't mean it. If you don't respect your audience, you will get nowhere because it's your audience that makes you famous.

The Real Abbey Life

As some of you might have noticed on my tweetstream last Tuesday and Wednesday , there was some excitement about an upcoming school trip to the abbey of Averbode. Back then, I didn't quite know what to expect from the whole thing. The image most people my age have of abbey life is the one we see in movies and books. When I walked through the front door I thought we would meet old and severe men, holding on to traditions that had since long lost their value in this modern world. I thought we would take a step back into time and that our idea that the men here must be crazy would get confirmed.

Big was the surprise when we discovered abbey life is nothing like that at all! We learned that the men living there are very up-to-date. They have laptops, cell phones and facebook, there even is WiFi in the abbey! We talked about sexuality and religion, the future of the church and love. Over lunch we discussed family guy and in the evening we sat all together, drank beer and played board games or played guitar.

A delicate balance between well-kept traditions and smart innovations create a feeling of homecoming.

The best memory I have of the three days we stayed there is the one of thursday night. At 11o' clock in the evening, friar Vincent took us to an old baroque room. There, he and a classmate played the piano. The scene was just surreal. Picture this; a monk in a white garb and a teenage boy playing 'All the right Moves' on a 150-year-old pianoforte in a breathtaking room with the most beautiful parquet in an 900-year-old abbey while the paintings of old masters were looking down upon us from the high walls. I must admit I shed a tear.

There I learnt that art and religion are the 2 most important things that make us, the human race, 'more' than the others species. Because they create just to create and give meaning to things. I am very thankful we got the chance to experience abbey life and I hope to go back one day.

Paris Fashion Week Highlights

After a full month with hundreds of beautiful shows that dragged the high fashion scene from New York to London, and from Milan to Paris, it's finally over. And as always, it leaves me with an akward feeling of melancholia. It feels like if a good friend that kept me company for the past month has moved away, and I'll only see him again in 6 months.

Here is my final Fashion Week Overview;
Since Paris had almost no live streams, I don't really have a good view on the collections so far. So I'll only talk about the shows there was a big buzz about.

Balenciaga

My personal Favourite

Even though the entire front row had to stand up during the show due to some collapsed benches, the reactions afterwards were laudatory. Nicolas Ghesquière presented one of his best collections in years. For inspiration, he looked back to the old days of high waists and broad shoulder pads.

The one with Florence

For this season's collection, Karl found his inspiration in the underwater world. The Grand Palais was decorated with white fish- and plant-like sculptures. By the end of the show, a big shell opened and Florence Welsh appeared. She sang her new song 'What the water gave me'. Mr Lagerfeld pushed the fashion enveloppe again, using fabrics and shapes that normally won't cross you're mind when you think of Chanel.

The one with the high expectations

After Kate's wedding dress, the expectations for Sarah Burtons collection were towering high, so I was very pleased to see she did it again. She showed us a strong collection that accentuated both the feminin strength and vulnerability. It was a collection that clearly wore the 'McQueen' label.

The one with the merry-go-round

To me, the LV show was the biggest disappointment of Paris Fashion Week. It's unclear what Marc Jacobs was trying to proove, because I just don't get. The clothes were ill-fitted and sometimes even plain ugly. I'm sorry Marc, not this time

Kanye West

No, you ain't got it.

Last but not least, the highly anticipated Kanye West show. At first reactions were not that bad, so I started worrying about what happened to my observation skills but after a few hours (thank god) people came to sense. This collection is a perfect example of a fashion addict trying too hard to be accepted as a designer. It shows once again that just because you love fashion, it doesn't mean you can design your own collection. No Kanye, you ain't got it.

And at last, I'd like to pay my respects to the family and friends of Francesco Cominelli, editor at Vogues Hommes International and fashion love child. We will all miss him and his talent.

The downfall of Vogue

Those who follow me on twitter will probably be very happy for me because the saga of my September Issue has come to an end. Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, on the first day of October, I finally have my US Vogue September Issue!

And now it seems God created this scene just for me; with 25°C, a lounge, a non-defined drink in a cocktail glass and no parents around, it's the perfect moment to work my way through this bible with a page count of 759.

But how it ended up dissappointing me..

What used to be one of the leading magazines in this industry, has become a superficial telephone book with 581 pages out of the 759 being adds (yes I counted them), a weak content and a price that's way too high. I'm sorry Anna, but I seems you changed you're focus from quality to quantity. I understand there's the pressure of making profits and always being bigger, but at some point one should pause for a moment, look a what one has become and change it if one doesn't like it. It's the weak point of many businesses that were cheered at all along their road to becomming big.. They loose their original cachet and forget why they started this in the first place.

The downfall becomes even clearer when you compare the September Issue of US Vogue to the October Issue of l'Officiel.

The October Issue of l'Officiel is dedicated to their 90th birthday and throughout the issue they look back on how they did things during those 90 years. It's very clear to see that l'Officiel has reinvented itself various times. It's a good example of a magazine that manages to bring original content in this world where something created one day is already outdated the next one. So Anna, this a shoutout to you; The next time you send your assistent to the press shop, tell her to also get an issue of l'Officiel. Read it, and draw your conclusions. Bigger isn't alwasy better.

I love every fashion week for an own special reason. I love New York for example, because of it's great streetstyle pictures, and it's new designers. And I love Milan, because Milanese people always seem to be having so much fun with their clothes and in their lifes and also because Milan has many of the Big Big Names.

Again, it was hard to discover any trends in the Milan collections. It's like New York and Paris set the main trends for the coming season and then you can see them a little bit in Milan and London, but mostly the designers there just do what they like.

The only trend that come back in some collections, was 'white'.

For those who don't know it yet, this was D&G's last collection. Domenico and Stefano decided to stop the label, so that they 'could put all their energy in the main collection, Dolce & Gabbana'

The best show I saw on live stream was definitely Dolce&Gabbana. Till today, the song that played during the show (Mambo Italiano by Sophia Loren) is still stuck in my head. The runway venue was transformed into a street fair with thousands of lights, and the collection was just marvelous!

London Fashion Week, an overview

My problem with London Fashion Week is that it is always over before I begin to realize it even started. And that's too bad, because in those short five days many great designers show their new season. Yesterday and today I found some time to look at the stills and form a bit of an opinion and collect some pictures of my favourite collections. For those of you who have troubles with LFW too, I made a little overview. I find it quite hard to discover trends in the collections, so here just are my favorites.

Kjell De Meersman is the first of a variety of people that I'd like to introduce to you. From now on, on a regular basis, I'm going to present you some young and yet to be discovered artists, designers, musicians, etc..

I first stumbled upon Kjells photos on his facebookpage, recommended by a friend. From the first moment, I loved his picures and I saw how gifted he was, but when he told me he was only 16, I was so amazed I immediately asked him if I could possibly use one of his photos as a header for my blog.

In his pictures, Kjell combines high fashion and a sense of rawness into honest portraits that simply speak to you. Take a look at it yourself.

I personnaly see quite a big Steven Meisel influence in his work, and that's no coïncidence, because he names Meisel as one of his icons, along with Steven Klein and Paolo Roversi.

There's no doubt this boy is awaiting a big future as a photographer and I wish him energy and luck to accomplish his dreams!

NYFW, evaluation

So, that was NYFW SS'12. It was a good week I think. Nice trends could be discovered in the collections, a lot of new and gifted designers got the opportunity to show and there were gorgous streetstyle pictures taken.

The biggest trend for next summer, is the multicolor floral print. We saw it at ADAM, Altuzarra, Costello Tagliapietra, Proenza Schouler, DKNY,.. to name just a few. This trend is mostly inspired by Givency's famous Violet Collection of last season.

NYFW - so far

So far, after 3 days of New York Fashion Week, nothing has really impressed me. There were some highlights, like Prabal Gurung, Christian Siriano and Alexander Wang, but nothing really 'wowed' me.

The trends for next summer are quite surprising I think. The biggest trend is neon yellow. We saw it in many collections, sometimes on big pieces and sometimes just as a little detail.

I don't know about you, but for me, fashion month means a lot of work. I put hours and hours in making schedules of all the live streams I want to see, converted to my time zone. So I was very happy last season when I discovered CatWalkLive.Tv

The site offers an up-to-date overview of all the live streamed shows in New York, Paris, Milan and London during the F/W and S/S fashion weeks. During fashion month, their twitter account sends updates about and reminders for the shows. With only 4 days until New York Fashion Week starts, I think it's a tool everyone should know about, and that's why I decided to do a post about it.

Below is an interview with Madrid and London based Rosalynn Holbrook, founder of CatWalkLive.Tv

Why did you start with catwalklive.tv? Was it your first intention to earn money or just to help your fellow fashionisto’s/a’s?

I created CatwalkLive.TV last season out of the sheer frustration every season of trying to find out what, where and when designers were showing live streams. This information was readily available, but across dozens of different sites which made finding out what collections were showing online incredibly difficult.

I knew with the growing popularity of live streams this problem was only going to get worse, so while I was making my own lists of shows to watch, it made sense to share this information with other people suffering the same problems finding live streams.

It struck me that you can get TV schedules online, so why not fashion show live streams? Unlike TV where you can simply flick through the channels, with live streams they could be showing on any number of websites, and I can imagine people new to Fashion Month would miss out on a lot!

Funnily enough I don't actually make any money through the site. I have advertising but this covers costs such as web hosting and Hootsuite Premium which I use to schedule show reminders for followers of @CatwalkLiveTV

Are you running the site all by yourself?

CatwalkLive.TV is still young, and at the moment it is just me working on it. Technically, the site is very basic - no databases or coding; if a show is live streaming, I go to that page and add it manually. I'm sure there are easier ways to do it, but that will come with experience.

In the meantime, I would love people to help by keeping their eyes peeled for live streams - if they spot one we haven't, I would love for them to let me know.

I just love to kick off a blogpost with a quote because, and here comes another one, ‘someone else has already said it best. So if you can't top it, steal from them and go out strong'

After being to Switzerland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, the UK, Italy and Germany in less than one year, I think I can say I’ve become quite an experienced traveler. I’ve visited hundreds of cities, boarded many TGV’s, Thalys’, airplanes, cars, taxis, busses, and even boats and met a variety of interesting [and less interesting ;)] people. During my trips I learnt that the most useful travel accessory is good manners, because people will appreciate them, no matter where you are. But, before I start to look to much like and 1952’s issue of ‘The Modern-Day Gentleman- I should say there are some other, more material things that helped me.

In your handbag

-A shedule with all the travel times, seating numbers,..

-A little bag with a pen, a lighter, a nail vile, Ipod, make-up,..

-Your agenda, a little notebook(I make my most quirky comments while I'm on
the train) and your address book

-Sunglasses

-Comb

-Mints or Chewing gum

   -An issue of a magazine like Vogue. It's an international token of style and it may be
    something to break the ice with when you want to talk to someone.

Feelings and stuff

I have some feelings I don't really understand, and that I wanna talk about, but I don't really know where to start. I don't feel like 'me' anymore.

Just in the beginning of this week I felt so great! Everything I tried succeeded. But Thursday things started to go wrong. I forgot to pack so many things, I missed a train in Nîmes and had to wait 3 hours for the next one, my suitcase broke,.. It seemed like it was just a start, an indication, because we all know what happened later that day at Pukkelpop.

Pukkelpop, that's another thing. It's probably also one of the reasons I feel so weird. A lot of my very close friends, such as my niece and brother were there, and no one could reach anyone. Their parents were so worried, but thanks to twitter and facebook, I was able to contact some of them and I could tell their parents they were ok. These hours were very stressfull for a lot of people and certainly for me too. I was in Avignon with a friend that night and we were constantly trying to reach all our friends who were at Pukkelpop. At her summerhouse, we couldn't watch Belgian television and it's on moments like those I'm very happy something like the internet exists. Even though I couldn't participate in the reliefactions people were setting up on twitter, I was very proud to be a part of the twitter family.

On the other hand, and maybe it's a little selfish and not right to say, facebook really annoyed me. I'm fine with people expressing their feelings in their statusses, but the people who started making pages like 'RIP to those who died at Pukkelpop 2011' right away really piss me of. The only thing the creators of those pages want, is as much 'likes' as possible. They don't think about the severity of what happenend! Please people, show some respect!

Something else that plays a role in me feeling not me is the quest for succes. Lately some very good things are happening to me and I feel more sure about my what I want for the future. But on the downside of that, I sometimes I find it very hard to stay true to me when I'm persueing my goals. I might forget who my real friends are. But I'm learning, step by step. On facebook for example, I defriended almost 100 'friends' and if someone who I don't know adds me now, I try to have a little chat first to figure out if this person may add something relevant to my life or not.

So, I understand this might be quite an odd post for a blog like this, but it helped me getting things straight in my head so I'm happy I wrote this.

Back in Belgium again, for a few days.(Thursdaymorning I'm leaving again for France) I'll be busy the coming days meeting up with people I haven't seen in a long time, maybe going to Primark, laundrystuff, packing again, arranging TGV and train tickets,...

Thylane Léna-Rose Blondeau, the name of the girl that's the subject of a discussion the whole (fashion)world seems to be taking part in these days.

First of all, I don't really get why everybody is freaking out now, since the photo's most people are critisizing were in the Vogue Paris Décembre 2010/Janvier 2011 issue, the one with Tom Ford as guest editor. I guess it's just a good example of copy-and-paste journalism. Some articles are literaly copied from other sites, and very few authors add something new to the discussion.

In the editorial which started this frenzy, she's dressed like a grown-up woman, wearing heels and make-up. When I was reading it, I was staying in Paris for the winter holidays then and I remember my mother mading a remark on it. I see why some people may get offended by the pictures. But we should think about it first before we draw conclusions too fast.

Since a blog isn't a static thing, but one that evolves with his author, I feel the need to make some changes involving this blog.

The past few weeks I am/was living in a rather confusing state of mind. What I was doing wasn't enough anymore to satisfie my needs and I was craving for something new.

I have let a lot of experiences and impressions perpatrate my mind by reading a lot of magazines and books, watching documentaries, movies and series, listening to new and old music, making trips to crowded and deserted, peacefull and urban places. I thought a lot, about life and what I wanted to do with it.

Do you know those moments on which everything seems clear?

I see very clearly now, what I was doing wrong.

One very wise fellow blogger stated in a comment on one of the previous posts; 'Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.' And that's exactely what I'll try to do. So, from now on, this blog is going to be about me and a bit about fashion, instead of about fashion and a bit about me.

I'll give my humble opinion about the greater things in life. Like love. And the new Haider Ackerman collection. But please, don't get me wrong. I don't expect any of you being interested in that. But if are, I'd be honored and pleased for making even the tiniest difference.

The perfect Antwerp Day

Goodmorning everyone!
I hope you all are enjoying your summer(holidays). I am anyway, because it's summer sales time again.

Yesterday a friend and I went on a shopping trip, but due to some idiotic problems at the Russian Ambassy where we had to fill in some papers for a visum application, we got delayed and arrived in Antwerp city at noon. The stores on 'De Meir' were way too crowded, and already completely messed up by the eager-to-find-the-best-deals shoppers. Eventhough, I found some great things!

But that's not really what I wanted to talk about. :) I actually wanted to share some tips on how to have 'The Perfect Antwerp Day'.

1) Arrive at 10am, when the stores on 'De Meir' are opening their doors. There will be nobody around and the shops will still be tidy.

2) Then, at noon, have lunch at The foodmaker. If you sit at the window on the first floor, you have a great view on the sidewalk for peoplespotting. Oh and BTW, they serve delicious food too! ;) Other great restaurants are 'Take five minutes in Paris', the bistro at Ra and Verso Cafe

3) In the afternoon, I always check out the vintage and antique stores in 'De Kloosterstraat' en 'De Steenhouwersvest' area. The best vintage store there is Episode. In that neigbourhood you also have the Essentiel Outlet, Fish and Chips and many other cute stores.

4) And when all the bags start to weigh too much, you can take a little break at Het Paleis op de Meir where they serve amazing afternoon tea with the cutest homemade macaroons, or at Le Pain Quotidien.

So, I hope my tips were usefull and maybe they'll upgrade your next Antwerp trip.

Wardrobe Inventory

Being the neurotic control freak I am, I make lists all the time. My 'piece de résistence' is my Wardrobe Inventory. That's a list, made in Excel, which contains every single piece of clothing and every accessory I own. Everytime I buy something new, I put the label, a description, the date of purchase and the price in the list. It's a nice project for this summer! :)

I use Excel because it's easy to calculate the total price of your wardrobe. And I assure you, you'll be shocked.

By making an inventory, you'll discover things of which you didn't even know anymore you had them. It makes you realize how spoiled we are here, in the rich west. We're always complaining about 'having nothing to wear', but actually we have so many pieces we forget about some.

First of all; School's out for me! :) Coming next, are two months of doing things I choose. I'm planning on making a lot of trips to vintage stores and antique shops. And of course the Italy trip with my parents, maybe a weekend in Venice for the Biennale and a week in France with my aunt.

Yesterday I finally found some time to go collect the result of the pottery class I took some weeks ago. I'm quite proud of it! Not bad bad for a first time don't you think? ;)

Vogue Italia Geek Chic

A lot of people ask me 'What are your plans for the future, what do you want to study?' All I say is something like 'I don't know it yet, but it'll be probably something creative. Truth is, I do know what I want. I want to study fashion! And one day I want to be an art journalist, oh heck, maybe even a designer, an editor at Vogue or a professional blogger!

Just imagine the reactions people would give me if I'd say that. They'd think I'd gone crazy. Not that I really care about people thinking I'm crazy (I AM crazy), but what bothers me more is the fact that people immediately think you're stupid and superficial when you say you like fashion and want to make a profession out of it.

-Just because you like to put on a beautiful Carolina Herrera dress or a pair of J Brand blue jeans instead of something basic from K-Mart it doesn't mean that you're a dumb person.-

Being a teenage gay boy doesn't help much either. It's so hard not to fall back in stereotypes when you're a gay boy in this century because society almost expects you to. I know, the image of a gay boy, interested in art and fashion isn't very original. But it's who I am.

It's 4am on a Thursday morning and I'm on Jak and Jil. I didn't manage to fall asleep tonight, and a few minutes ago, I gave it up.

I use the quality time to catch up on the fashion news I missed the past weeks. When you're days are filled with books and exam stress, checking Tavi or BryanBoy isn't the first thing on your mind.

Actually I always love being awake at these hours. It's something strange. Knowing that you're probably the only one in the neighbourhood who's not sleeping. And together with the others online, you feel connected, in some way.

I've just finished the first read-through of the Vogue Paris June/July issue, and I must say I'm quite astonished. Emanuelle did very well this time. I'm happy she didn't pick another celebrity for this issues cover, like she did before, but went for Isabeli Fontana.

Theme of the issue is Grèce, or Greece.

Yesterday, my teacher of art history showed us some paitings made by James Ensor. On one of them, Ensor painted himself in his atelier, with a skull as head.

The story behind it is this; Imagine, one morning you wake up, and you realise it's gone. Your talent is gone. Period. It's the biggest fear of every artist alive. That one thing people loved you for, is gone.

And I started thinking. Which talent would I save, if I had to choose one? Is that even a question you can find an answer to? First problem; We don't fully realise what our biggest talents are. To know that, we should turn to our friends and ask what they think our biggest talent is. And so I did. Most people said, my biggest talent is my ablitiy to love life, no matter what happens. Ok, that's somethng I know. But what I really didn't expect, is what some others said; My biggest talent is that I always keep up the 'illusion of perfection'.

But when I think about it, that might be true. I know I'm quite a neurotic person ;). I always need to control the situation, or I won't be on my ease. And I plan every move ahead, I always know what I'm going to do or say next. Is that a talent? Some may experience it as annoying or obesessive But clearly, my friends think of it as something that makes me me and they like it. Anyway, it's how I am.

But now, to answer the question; Which talent would I save if I had to choose? I think, I would save my talent to love life.

‘What is love’ I ask myself. I'm sitting on the old train rails underneath a tree. The frogs are making their frogsound in the pond nearby. This is a peaceful place. I like to come here, just to walk and think. Subject of today’s thoughts is.. let’s call him Jim. Jim is a guy, 24, who I met yesterday at a birthdayparty of a mutual friend. He’s sweet, nice and charming. And above this, he’s smart and intelligent. Only problem; because of his professional situation it’s impossible for us to start something.

I don’t know if it’s the impossibility of a relationship that intrigues me, but it may well explain why Jim is all I think about today.

And then came the question ‘What is love?’. There are so many theories and I don’t even know which one I think is possibly right. So I came up with this. If it works out right, I’ll believe loving someone is something unique and special, given to us by faith, or maybe a God. If we just stay friends, I’ll try to believe love is just a chemical reaction in our brains. And I’ll try to make it happen again, with someone else.

Just something short today, I don't have much time these days because of school. :/

Do you know the feeling, when you stand naked in front of the mirror and you suddenly notice your body isn't what it used to be? There is too much hair on places I won't discuss here, you've gained some pounds, your tann is gone, your flawless skin isn't that flawless anymore.. Yes? Well, than you know what I'm feeling right now.

And I think it's strange because my body is something I usually take care of verry well.
You can read that as: I shower, sauna and bath every day
I follow a strict vegetarian diet
I spend fortunes at Kiehls

For me my body is my very personal piece of art.
But winter washed away a lot of last year's achievements. So it'll take some weeks of hard work to get back in shape again.

Travel diary, London day 2

Day two was the day with the most culture and history. And no shopping for clothes. I know, shock. I only bought two books 'The Notebook' and '50 Bags That Changed The World'. We visited Winchester, the city of Jane Austen, and Oxford, known for it's colleges. It was very nice to see the England from the movies like 'the holiday' etc. and to wander the streets the great Jane Austen once wandered.

No more hats

I know, I know. Every single blog on the internet is writing about it, but I just can't keep myself from adding another post to the pile.

But don't be afraid, I won't write about the hats, like everyone else. Because I don't like hats. The only thing I'm going to say about that subject, is that Perez Hilton deserves a special price for picking some of the ugliest hats for his Photo Galery 'Best Hats At The Royal Wedding'. No Perez, a flying saucer isn't supposed to be on the head of Camilla Parker Bowles and it certainly isn't beautifull. And no, an Union Jack hat isn't cute. It's stupid.

Over now to the real post. Actualy, one of the only things that realy caught my eye yesterday was the outfit of Victoria Beckham. Once again she did it, she didn't let me down. I don't even know how I should start describing the magnificent outfit she wore to the royal wedding. Her hat was, of course, a Philip Treacy. The dress was one of her own designs. I wasn't able to find the label of the bag, but I suppose it's a VB design too. And last but not least, the shoes. Aren't those the highest heels you've ever seen? :o My jaw litteraly dropped when they appeared on the screen. And the brand, what did you think, Louboutin.

Next highlight, the decoration in the church. I just don't understand why so many people hated the young trees along the sides of the aisle. In my opinion, the young green contrasted beautifully with the old stone church. And the coulour scheme of the outfits of both Kate and William, the trees, and the red carpet was just perfect. So perfect that I even shed a tear when Kate walked down the aisle escorted by her father. Yes, even bloggers have feelings. ;)

Travel diary, London day 1

I've been back in Belgium for some days. My bags have been unpacked, school has started again, and life goes on on it's regular pace.

It's time now to look back and give you a report of my days in London.
This is part one of my travel diary.

Thursday morning, we arrived in London at about 10 a.m. First activity on the schedule, Wimbledon. This tennis club is known as the most prestigious club in the whole world. I was there last summer, to watch the 'Grand Slam'. Anna Wintour was there too, the same day. It's hard to describe Wimbledon. You realy have to see it yourself. Let's just say, you feel very important watching the games, eating strawberries with cream, drinking champagne... with a VIP-pass around your neck ;)

Packing for London

One of the hardest things to do, is packing for a trip. Especially when you're headed to a fashion capital like London. Last time, I was in London during the cold Christmas holidays, so packing was easier. I took a few pair of long pants, some warm pullovers and a vest. But now it's mid-season. And altough it's already pretty hot here in Europe, the weather in London is most of the time a little bit colder and rainier than in Belgium. So I have to take many more things. These are the clothes I've packed so far;

1 blue jeans
2 long pants (gray and beige)
1 beige short
7 tshirts in diffirent colors
1 jeansshirt
3 pairs of shoes
5 sunglasses
4 bags
1 sjawl
6 belts
2 pullovers

P.S. Since I'll be in London untill sunday, I won't be able to write new posts. Of course, Sunday I'll write a big report on the trip. But till then, you will have to miss me ;)

Aktion III + Barista

This may be something you don't know, but I have a thing with Ghent. Every two, three weeks I start having that feeling of restlessness, and I know it'll only go away when I've strayed the streets of Ghent, visited some vintage shops and drunk a coffee at Barista.

Friday, I felt that way again, so I rang up a friend and we jumped on the train to Ghent. We wandered around for some time, I bought a new T, and we went to Barista for an espresso and a fresh ice tea. If you are in the city one day, you really need to go check it out. Maybe I'll do a post on Barista one day, but that's not what I wanted to talk about today.

While sipping our coffee, in front of the big windows, our eyes fell on a strange shop across the street. The sign above the door said 'Reizen' which means 'Vacations' in dutch. And in the shop windows there were old hospital beds. We were kind of intrigued, so we decided to take a look.

Really special shoes

Whoever said "It's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes -- that's why you sometimes need really special shoes!" was so right. Even tough I'd like to replace 'a single woman' by 'a gay teen' in this case.;)

I was on a stock-sale today when I discovered these 'Floris van Bommel' loafers. They were 50% off (€120/170$) so I just couldn't leave them there, or I would really regret it later. Don't you just adore them? I'm so in love!

The road less traveled

Niall O'Brien, the lucky man who was asked to make a road trip for McQ, finally posted the last two pictures of his trip on the official McQ tumblr. Make shure to check it out here, there are many very beautifull photos.

McQ is a contemporary line by design house Alexander McQueen. McQueen started this project in the year before his death. He wanted to create a collection that was less expensive but still carried the McQueen spirit. This road trip fitted in that project, as a quest for inspiration.

Charma

As promised some days ago, here is a post on the jewellery label 'Charma', owned by my niece Marthe and my best friend Charlotte.

They started making their own earrings last Christmas, because they thought it was expensive to buy a new pair of earrings for every outfit you wear to the various Christmas and new years parties. And on the parties, people noticed them wearing these beautiful pieces and asked them where they bought them. So from then on, they started selling their earrings.

Lille 07-04-'11

Yesterday I went to Lille in France with some friends. I've been there many times before but yesterday I discovered some streets with little shops and cozy restaurants I've never seen before. Like this old store called 'La Droguerie' where they sold thousands of pearls, stocked in beautiful pots on shelves against the walls, and all kinds of wool in all kinds of colours. Especially my two friends Marthe & Charlotte who have their own jewellery label 'Charma' were very happy we found this store. They spend over half an hour in this shop and bought so many things. I'll write a post about their jewellery in the coming weeks.

Christophe Decarnin leaving Balmain

Earlier today Balmain confirmed the departure of creative director Christophe Decarnin.
The French couture house didn't share the reason for the departure, but everybody already knows there are some troubles between Decarnin and Alain Hevelin. The rumours started when Decarnin didn't show up at the runway show in february due to 'a depression'.

Decarnin started working at Balmain in 2005 en became creative director in 2007.

Perfection as an Art

For art class I have to write an essay and I chose the subject 'Perfection as an art, the art of perfection'. (amongst other options I considered where 'Redheads in art history' and 'Muses of Warhol')

My intention is to write about pieces of art from which perfection isn't only the goal, but also the road towards it. So far I've found performance artist Marina Abramovic, Tom Ford's movie 'A single man', the work of German photoprapher Thomas Demand and the Marfa Prada store on Route 90.

So now my question to you is, do you know an artist that I can also feature in my essay? If you do so, please post it in a comment or tweet me or mail me or whatever.

And when I've completed the essay, I'll post it, of course, on the blog. :)x

All I think about the last weeks is updating my fb-status and liking things. Everytime I see or experience something nice, I think 'Hmm, I should put that on facebook, twitter, tumbler or blogger'. I check lookbook 3 times a day. There are 23 blogs on my 'check daily' list. My phone rings off the hook.

And I'm sick of it.

So the coming week, I'm taking an e-break.

Fever Ray

The last month I've been obsessing about Fever Ray. This solo project of The Knife's Karin Dreijer Andersson is a very strong example of the ways we can use modern technologies to create something renewing yet intimate.

Karin uses a lot of electronical techniques such as a microphone that mutates her voice.

It may take a while before you learn to appreciate the music, but once you've discovered it's beauty you are stuck.Beneath you can watch the clip of 'When I grow up'. I particularly love the styling of the girl, the shamanistic/new age look is amazing and fits the song perfectly.x

Finally, I got my hands on the March/Lady Gaga issue of Vogue us, after going to the press shop at least ten times the past two weeks. The very moment I entered the shop this afternoon, the shop lady was waving with it and shouted 'I've got your Vogue' :D Guess she knew how depserate I was.x

One of my all time favourite style icons is Charles Guislain or as Diane Pernet calls him 'Petit Charles'. I got to know him by seeing his photo on the Sartorialist. Immidiately I was intregued by the androgyn look of this boy.

Product Review: Kiehls Facial Fuel and Midnight Recovery Concentrate

In the Christmas holidays I bought myself an early present; the face wash, scrub and moisture from Kiehls' Facial Fuel line and the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I shop way to often at Kiehls, the shop assistant already knows my full name. :D I've taken some time to try these wonderfull products and after three months of testing I can clearly state that these are the best skincare products I've ever used -and believe me, they aren't the first I try ;)-

To give you an idea on how you should take care of your skin, I'll describe my daily ritual. In the morning, after shaving, I clean my face with the Energizing Face Wash. After that I apply Blemisch Control(only when spots are terrorising my face) and then I put on the Energizing Moisture SPF15. Always make shure your daily moisture has sun protection included, to prevent wrinkels and skin cancer.

This was the first time I participated so much in the fashionweeks, although it was only online. I've learnt so much, got to know many interesting and inspiring people, discovered amazing blogs, got to understand the complexity of fashion a little bit more, I started this blog. And also, througout these past four weeks, my passion grew stronger. Now I know what I want to do in the future.

Today, with Louis Vuitton as the highlight, the fashion frenzy has left us. It leaves me with a double feeling. On one side, I'm happy because these past weeks we've seen the most amazing pieces of art, and also because from now on, my life can continue on it's regular pace (that means no more rushing home after school or waking up at 02.00am to catch a lifestream)

After watching the speech of Dior's CEO Friday(on the whole situation with Galiano), and actually understanding what he said, I was so happy I speak french. And I realised that in fashion there are three languages; English, French and Italian. Lucky for me, I already speak English and French. So I, the impulsive boy that I am, jumped on my bike, went to the bookstore and bought 'How to speak Italian, in 6 weeks'. And now, for the coming 6 weeks, every evening you'll find me behind my desk studying new words(La prima colazione) and practising the pronounciation of Italian sentences(Costa molto la ferrarri? Si, certo, costa troppo!).

Launched two weeks ago, it looks like Moda Operandi is here to stay. The site was created in cooperation with the wonderfull Lauren Santo Domingo (contributing director at Vogue) and Aslaug Magnusdottir (last worked at Warris and Gilt Noir Group), two strong names in the fashion world.

I'm Starting a Blog

I'm starting a blog, finally. I still don't know how RedHeadFashion is going to look like in the future, but I can't give myself anymore time to figure it out. Right now, after reading some posts and articles about blogging in /and the future, I feel like if I don't jump on the train right now, I'm going to miss it.
One thing that is for sure, is that this blog will contain fashion. Lots and lots of fashion. And style. And art. Music. Travelling. Food. Ok, I think you get it now. :)

I hope you'll come around sometime.

Eindelijk start ik m'n blog. Ik weet nog niet exact hoe die er in de toekomst uit zal zien, maar ik kan mezelf niet nog meer tijd geven omdat uit te zoeken. Want nu, nadat ik enkele blogs en artikels over bloggen in/en de toekomst heb gelezen heb ik het gevoel dat ik, als ik nu niet op de trein spring, hem zal missen.

Een ding dat wel zeker is, is dat deze blog over mode zal gaan. Veel en veel mode. En stijl. En kunst. Muziek. Reizen. Eten. Ok, je begrijpt het wel denk ik :)

Ik hoop dat je af en toe eens langskomt.
